Launch of the Inaugural TIFF Gala

TIFF is a not-for-profit cultural organization with a mission to transform the way people see the world through film; but it takes resources to realize this mission and further their community outreach efforts. To that end, TIFF nominated Board member Warren Spitz to chair the inaugural gala. Having worked with us in the past on a number of events, Warren came to e=mc² with one simple challenge – make this inaugural gala as amazing and dynamic as the festival itself.

And on Saturday, September 8 in Toronto, we did just that.

Inspired by the soon-to-open TIFF exhibit – 50 Years of Designing 007 – the evening took on a Bond theme. “The Night That Never Ends” became the title for the evening – and from this a rogue spy character, 005, became the focus of the invite – and even played a role in the evening itself.

Working with a waterfront location in Toronto’s inner harbour, the location was enhanced with a barge brought in and transformed specifically for the reception and after party. A tented venue on the land beside the water hosted over 500 guests for dinner and some exclusive entertainment – including Gordon Lightfoot, Chantal Kreviazuk, Glee’s Darren Criss, Sean Jones, Shakura, Beverly Mahood, Sophie Serafino and more. The guests were treated to Bond inspired cuisine designed exclusively for the evening by Ritz Carlton’s world-wide Vice-President of Culinary Operations – Chef Rainer Zinngrebe.

Beyond the funds that were raised for TIFF that evening, so were martini glasses, future gala expectations and a few eyebrows.
