About This Project

Morrison Homes – The Block Party

Lemonade Stand

Vintage Props

Morrison Homes was turning 50 and needed a celebration that represented who they were when they started and where they were going in the future, Morrison style.

We were engaged to create an experience that honoured their family, the company, their partners and their clients, always focussing on Customers First.  Morrison Homes – The Block Party

From “then to now” was the inspiration for the event design where we would celebrate 50 years of Morrison relationships and “customer first” service in a fun interactive way, on “Morrison Way” and The Block Party! The “Block Party” was a journey through the decades with the creation of a cul-de-sac appropriately named “Morrison Way”.  A vintage VW Beetle offered guests a journey starting in the 60’s, while the brand new version led them to the “now”.

The houses in Morrsion Way were facades of digital replicas of Morrison Homes’ architectural designs of each of the eras. Behind the facades, floor plans were projected on the ground while interior design from the decade was featured. The “Block Party” came alive with street props, a neighbourhood ice lemonade stand (Named for the founders wife), decade-inspired themed food stations, uniquely branded vintage décor, and interactive activities (Think Pac-Man) and entertainment.

Guests arrived at the event to a pre function space that was transformed into a neighborhood backyard through the use of backyard props including Adirondack chairs, turf grass, bicycles, barbeques and swing sets. Characters dressed as Stepford Wives from the 1960s, and barbequing masters opened doors into the main event room and guests began to travel back in time.

The program was unique for Morrison Homes. A heart-warming video was created to showcase the history and energy of the client. The dueling piano players played the President and CEO’s favorite song as he walked onto stage to give thanks to everyone in the room. A music video produced prior to the event played overhead and strategically matched the event by using music and decade-reminiscent graphics to showcase the Morrison Homes journey from inception to today. An emotional photo opportunity was created as the first Morrison Homes homeowners (from 1965) shook hands near the stage with the newest homeowners as the crowed cheered. The formal program ended with a cake cutting ceremony including the founding Morrison couple and their current executive team. A streamer blast reignited the dance party and a well-known local party band played hits from the decades into the night. The evening was a success, the founding Morrison couple, in their late 80s, who were among the last to leave the event!

First home – Our favorite moment was the introduction of the original homeowners, the most recent homeowners and the founders of Morrison Homes. As all three couples stood on stage together it was a true testament to Morrison’s constant focus on customer service and to the company’s lasting presence in the industry.

The invitation design was an opportunity to leverage the creative concept of the event at the first touch point. With the help of our graphic design partner, clients, employees, and other homebuilders were sent a digital invitation that traveled through each of the 5 decades with 5 different pages. The invitation included interactive scroll-over buttons with fun facts about the decade and specific milestones that Morrison achieved in those ten years. Each page had decade-reminiscent music and graphics representing home designs and fashion of the time.
