This event was virtually out of this world!!

In 2009, e=mc² events made history by successfully producing a virtual and hybrid event in space. The University of Calgary honoured Dr. Robert Thirsk with an Honorary Degree while he was living on the International Space Station and "e" was selected as the partner to make this a reality.

When an event is in space, the possibilities are endless.

The Experience

The morning event included the President and Chancellor from the University, Marilyn Steinberg from the Canadian Space Agency, university deans, professors, alumni and students from the Minds in Motion program. All guests were excited and amazed by the ceremony that stretched 350 km into the sky. Dr. Thirsk was awarded his honorary degree and was able to answer questions from students.

As the event producer, we worked directly with NASA and the University of Calgary to facilitate all of the technical requirements of this event. The ceremony made history and the event highlighted the University of Calgary's accomplishments and commitment to excellence.
