We were contracted to design, plan and produce Amway Japan's Leadership Achievement Seminar (LAS) in Vancouver and Whistler. This world-class multi-day program, at multiple indoor and outdoor venues, was created to impress and reward 2,600 Japanese business owners and guests with once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Along with branding, product activation, gifting, and signage, we managed the Business Session, Welcome Party, Grand Banquet, and J-Style Whistler Activation.

  • The Experience

The Amway Japan Leadership Achievement Seminar (LAS) aims to reward eligible Business Owners for their hard work during the past year, providing Japan’s top leaders opportunities to communicate with each other, and drive the growth of their businesses through several events designed to motivate Owners towards continued growth of their businesses by providing a spectacular event for them and the company to come together in celebration of their accomplishments.

Brand Recognition was integral to the client - ensuring the logos were appropriately placed everywhere including custom signage, stair decals and lighting gobos, as well as creating exclusive and unique experiences, displays, activities that were personalized to Amway.

    Business Session

The goal of the Business Session was to have an informative experience for the guests and inject moments of fun. We set the scene with projection mapping of multiple 5' wide, 20' tall columns flanking two 60' wide screens to create flowing content interacting on all surfaces. Guest were treated to Japanese/English simultaneous interpretation services for 2600, and live internet showcasing Amway Apps from an iPad on stage broadcast on large screens. The session included a group shot of 2500 Japanese delegates. After the session, guests were surprised by a snowmobile entrance on stage escorting a popular Amway executive personality. The snowmobile then took him offstage through a light show and fog screen to reveal the Welcome Party on the other side. Cameras and music in the Welcome Party room sent video and music to the Business Session room to excite guests while they transitioned locations.

    Welcome Party

After guests followed the VIP executive on the snowmobile they entered a Canadian wonderland featuring multiple chic-Canadiana themed environments with custom decor broken into five zones - Lumber Lounge, Polar Zone, Mountie Lounge, Northern Way, and the XS Lounge. Each zone featured unique elements:

     - Lumberjack shows with character actors and professional axe throwing, and a northern lights projected stage featuring a 10 piece dance band

     - Two 8' long x 4' tall geometric polar bear cut outs and a life size animatronic polar bear that interacted with guests

     - A life sized horse statue, 12' tall maple leafs, character Mounties, and maple syrup stations

     - Custom iceberg hanging sculptures to denote the two giant centre bars, as well as a centre geodesic dome stage featuring a local celebrity DJ

     - A custom branded ice hockey rink for guests to play in, as well as curling, an ice bar, basketball, and two walk in snow globe photo opportunities

    J-Style Whistler Activation

The J-Style brand activation in Whistler was extremely important; enabling 1500 guests to explore an exclusive curated experience, appealing to the young, hip, trendsetting demographic. The Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler plaza was transformed into a custom Ice Palace featuring full ice walls sculpted by hand, a  J-Style Energy Drink ice bar with LED lighting, a logo statue, a local DJ, and live ice sculpting each day by world-renowned ice carver Hiroshi (Hiro) Takahashi, sculpting pieces inspired by the 2018 location (Hawaii) with a chainsaw. Fuelled by the J-Style Energy Drinks and the energetic music of a local DJ, guests were shuttled to their daily winter sport activities along with the following experiences:

     - A unique photo op at the top of a mountain with custom branded gear, a custom created backdrop with fully refurbished "Amway" skis, branded goggles, and toques

     - A zip-line experience with branded banners on the platforms, amenity baskets at the A Frame lodge, and a photographer for group and action shots of guests going down zip-line

     - GoPro cameras for each guest, with a social media sized video post sent to them immediately after the event alongside the full memory card of footage

    Grand Banquet

The Grand Banquet was a celebration of Amway's top sellers. Production design and room decor completely immersed the 260-table ballroom in the theme "Aim Higher". A centre stage was utilized for an opening DJ, special presentations from J-Style executives, as well as highlighting Amway Japan heros with overhead pyro and flutterfetti effects before their triumphant walk to stage.

The main stage set included five 25' wide by 10' tall mountains shaped as the program logo. These were front lit, with LED strip treatments, and became projection mapped surfaces. Multi layered LED soft goods (allowing for backstage entrances) surrounded a 100' wide 20' tall screen with recipient content and special videos. The use of all of these elements allowed for continuously evolving backgrounds as higher and higher tiers of recognition groups paraded to stage. Ground based pyro positions were also utilized across the entire main stage to emphasize the most important Amway Japan guests of the evening.

After the ceremony, while guests were entertained at the centre stage, celebrity headliner Kelly Clarkson got into position on the main stage. Without a pause in the programming, Kelly kicked off her one hour set with crowd favourites and an unforgettable performance.
