THE WOODROW WILSON AWARDS

Since 1998, the Wilson Center has recognized such exemplary individuals with the Woodrow Wilson Awards. At dinner ceremonies held from Toronto to Tokyo and San Francisco to São Paulo, the Wilson Center honours those who through thoughtful discussion, generous philanthropy, and selfless service have made the world a better place for all of us. In May 2016, Lois and Doug Mitchell and Michael Tims were recognized and received the awards in Calgary, AB.

  • The Experience

The evening began with a cocktail hour to begin the networking early before dinner. We also managed a separate reception for VIPS. Guests were then ushered inside for the dinner and award ceremony. We revitalized the Wilson Centre from being a typical, drawn out and extended award ceremony to a tightly ran program. Guests were engaged with all senses as opposed to going to typical awards ceremonies. The guests in attendance are considered Alberta’s business elite.

In order to keep guests engaged and the show on time, we worked strategically with audio visual elements and Dave Kelly was the emcee for the evening. We added in video testimonials as opposed to speeches, and we used a dynamic video backdrop on the stage instead of a static image to improve the effect of the audio visual presentation. We also created custom content creation for the visuals and marketing.

Décor was light in favour of visual and audio design, but it still was impactful and impressed the audience! We color blocked the Canadian and United States national colors in a modern way to visualize unity between our two nations.

  • Whizbang Moment

The visual backdrop was the whizbang moment, when it was put on television it looked dynamic and elevated the speeches and awards portion of the evening.
